Ride report: Saturday club run

FLOOD !

An impromptu hastily put together club run Despite the weather.

Five set off hoping the worst of the weather was done for the day following the published route to Dunham. true the rain had eased but my word, the roads! Never mind the calls for potholes, cars, the roads are completely flooded, and strewn with debris. Still, we carried on and enjoyed our ride ploughing through the deep waters covering practically every road in Cheshire. Most dramatic was crossing the A34 Alderley bypass - see the photo. If you look closely you can just make out the top of a black car stranded in the water. We did come across one road south of Mobberley which was totally unpassable.

On our way past Tatton Park we had another scare as a white van suddenly appeared from a driveway, causing Nigel to slam on his brakes. Fortunately the van stopped and Jill managed to avoid a pile up. I’m not sure if the squeal was from Nigel’s brakes or Jill!

Not farther on we heard another sudden noise like a gunshot as Mark’s rear tyre erupted. A temporary repair got us back on the road in order to divert to the nearest bike shop in Knutsford. One new tyre later, and coffee and cake in the local supermarket café gave us enough refreshment to improvise a return route via Tatton Park, Ashley and Alderley Edge. Yet more adventures were to come in the form of a snapped rear mech cable leaving Jill with two gears. Un-deterred we carried on to meet up with our non-cycling colleagues in the Ship Inn.

Thanks to Jill, Dave H, Nigel and Mark H for coming out to play.
