Wednesday Club Run to Utkinton

What a delight it was for me to attend this ride as a punter not as a leader, after Moray had bravely stepped up to the plate and assumed the mantle of ride leadership at an emotional bended knee ceremony in South Park marked by the wiping of one or two not so dry eyes, a hearty toast of tepid orange squash from our water bottles and a rousing cheer of Le roi est mort, vive le roi!

And on 21 Aug, Raph will lead his very first Wed Club Run. This is all part of my plan to cede my portfolio of bikey responsibilities as I (1) prepare myself for my new career as a catalogue model (mature) with an eye to an invitation to join the next series of Love Island or (2) realise it’s high time to stop leading rides that I’m struggling on [delete as appropriate].

Of course the downside of not devising the route is that the young turks may add a crafty 10 miles to what would have been my (top end) 62, but all was well thank you Moray, I managed your 72-mile ride, my longest since my ill-fated and not to be repeated Two Loops debacle in March, at an average speed of 14.8 mph, with the only damage being to a part of my anatomy that it is inappropriate to share on this channel, or for that matter anywhere else other than the privacy of the surgery of dear old Doctor Bones or the ministrations of firm-but-fair Matron Hattie Jacques -don’t we all miss her?
