First Training Ride Of The Decade @ 10-2-7

We started the year with a good ride last night.

It didn’t start to well in the car park at Broken X though as it started spotting with rain as we made our final adjustments; back lights on constant etc etc. So it was a bit unpleasant heading down Pexhill and onwards to the A50 into a wet blustery headwind, never the less a good mixed ability group of ten got on with it and made steady progress.

After about 40 minutes the rain seemed to be stopping and we started picking up more of a tailwind heading up to Toft. We then tried a new route, turned right onto the A50 (back into the headwind) to the left at Whipping Stocks & through the lanes via Batemill to Jodrell Bank and directly back to Siddington.

Bennett was the first to put the hammer down going up Pexhill and he ended third over the line with Christian & Mark W being joint first, Mark B fourth, Jim fith then in no mans land Fred followed by Andy on probably his strongest effort yet up there. Fozzy, Rick and Jill were all up at the top in pretty short order.

So the ride ended well, it wasn’t the fastest or prettiest of chain gangs but everyone rode sensibly and considerately making a good effort in typical winter conditions. In the Park Tavern after there was a lot of talk of plans for later in the year, cycling holidays etc etc, if we keep it up and do our best like last night @ 10-2-7 on Thursdays we will all be going better by the summer.
