Wednesday Club Run - Circuit of the Edge

Eight met at South Park to opt for the 55 mile Circuit of the Edge, minus the Bollington loop, but with some other extra loops.

Andy, Steve, Mick, Raph, Chris, Joe, Dave and me were soon joined en route by Rob and Richard. After two hours of riding we called in at The Wizard Tearoom. A sign outside said they were shut from 12:00 for a private function, but they had the time wrong, it was from 13:00. We all opted for quick food options and the majority had very good homemade beans (of different kinds) on toast. The wood burning stove was useful for drying our damp gloves. Unfortunately Raph missed out on his feed as a mechanical meant he decided to head off to his LBS.

Whilst in the café the weather turn very wet so the second half of the circuit was ridden mainly in the rain till the sun came out for the last half hour or so. Andy discovered at the top of Birtles, his brake blocks had shredded away and now the callipers were carving chunks off his rims. So off to his LBS he went.

Two passages of Fanshawe Lane with heavy hedge cutting activity finally claimed a victim. Chris was able to display his skills of effective and efficient tube replacement to the seven of us encouraging him to hurry up as we were getting cold. The remaining two climbs certainly helped to warm us up.

Distance: 55 miles Altitude gain: 3341ft Average Speed: 13 mph.
