Larkling Ride to Wheelock

Saturday 8th February: With a forecast of winds gusting 40 mph & rain the decision was made to postpone the hilly ride to the Roaches for another day and embark on a flatter ride to the cafe at Wheelock.

Still jet lagged from a tropical holiday it took some significant effort for me to get out of the door in the icy rain and wind. The outlook improved and there was a large group of Larks / Larklings at South Park. Five set out on the larking ride (Nicky, Jen, Me (Alison) and Greg) lead by Simon. We were soon joined by Phil as we headed southwest into a strong head wind. The weather continued to improve, and we even saw some sunshine!

Great route, mostly quiet lanes to arrive at the cafe wind swept and ready for refreshment.

Any suggestions what Greg has seen?

The café was busy but service was efficient. We were soon joined by the Larks. The return journey was significantly easier with the wind more on our tail and the rain stayed off for an enjoyable ride home.

All in all a great ride and so glad that I summoned the effort to get out.

Thanks to Chris for planning the route and Simon and Phil for leading and adapting the route. 78 km (48 miles) with 680 m of climbing at an average speed of 19.4 km/h (12 mph).

Next weekend on the 17th March some of us are planning to do the 100 mile 2 loop ride at a Larkling pace (weather permitting). Might be finishing in the dark!
