Sunday Easy Ride to Lyme Park

We had another challenging but do-able easy ride today, with 16 of us out.

We split into two groups as we left Wilmslow, with Alicia, John E, Alison, Jim and myself taking a short cut which put us ahead of the rest by about a mile and a half, and extra time for the hills. Yvonne joined us en route, and the wind helped us up the climbs. The rest of the group, led by John Jackson caught us near Higher Poynton, and we rode together until we got to Buxton Road. We sent Alicia and Steve off on the shorter route whilst the rest of us looped around to avoid the main road. The final stretch to the cafe through Lyme Park was tough, being uphill and exposed to strong gusts of cross wind, which sent a couple of us onto the grass verge. Alicia and Steve had saved us some tables in the cafe, the service was at National Trust speed, but the food was good. The route back was mostly downhill, and fairly sheltered, so we coped with the gusting head to cross wind. Various riders peeled off at various points close to their respective homes, so on the final stretch from Prestbury there were just seven of us left to enjoy a short spell of sunshine. By the time we reached Alderley Edge at 2.30pm we decided that we had earned a second cafe stop, so paid Costa a visit. Other riders out today were Bennet, Rob, Mark H, Simon G, Adele, Kirsten, Griff and Phil.
