Larkling Ride to Church Minshull

Windy, flat, sunny and dry, cheerful larkling ride. ~ 60 miles 643m elevation at about 13 mph.

Five of us set out: Ian, Kirsten, Simon G, Mark and myself from South Park at a steady pace over Pexhill and down through Siddington. As the sun came out we picked up the pace a little and on to Swettenham where we were joined by Phil on a gravelly scenic off road section.

Tough riding into a strong head wind as we headed just south of Middlewich and on to Church Minshull. The lovely Aqeduct Marina Café had a great menu and efficient service. We just had time to get our orders in and start our drinks when the Lark ride arrived. Perfect timing and the café was transformed from deserted into lively.

Refreshed and re-fuled we were joined by Rob from the Lark ride and 7 of us headed out leaving the larks still feasting. With new energy and the wind behind us it promised to be an exhilarating ride back. Skimming the north edge of Crewe we were soon overtaken by the larks on the quiet lanes. On through Sandbach returning home via Marton and Gawsworth.

We were joined for a few miles by a gentleman from Congleton CC.

As is the case the wind seemed much less when coming from behind and we certainly felt the distance towards the end. We all enjoyed a great ride. Thanks Chris for planning the route and all who took turns leading & navigating especially into that relentless headwind on the way out! Looking forward to more.
