Steady Training Ride At 6.30 PM Last Thursday

We had a record turnout for the year so far of seven on last night's steady training ride.

It's a good job it was seven of us to as it was also a record wind from the sou-west which meant hard work out to Byley. By the time we got to the turn roughly north there were just five of us going through but no one was complaining with a good tailer helping us along compensating for the loss in collective legpower. Of course as we got back towards Marthall the blustery wind was trying to push us back again but experience tells us the best thing to do is stay together and work for each other so that's what we did. Through Chelford and back up Congleton lane it was the same form; steady through and off.

Statistically we were the same speed or a tiny bit slower than last week back to Siddington as evidence suggests 0.1mph must be within the Strava margin of error. According to that widely used app my time up Pexhill was 12:49 (16.6mph) compared to Bartosz’s slower 13:03 (16.3mph)🤷 yet Bartosz was first over the line 🏅 at Broken X with your correspondent having completely lost sight and contact with the leading group which also included; Chris, Fozzy & Rich. Shortly after myself (well and truly in no man’s land) Pete and Mark checked in at the finish.

So it was good to do the ride two Thursday nights on the trot and weather permitting the same again next week, evolving back to a regular fixture which is the plan. A few peep’s have said they intend to join the ride when the evening’s get lighter, that’s fine but riding in a sensible group in the dark is a skill worth practicing  anyway and now is a good time to get quality miles in….. It’ll just make those summer ride’s seem easier and more pleasurable. Hope to see you next time.
