Steady Chain Gang In A good Weather Window

Sometimes its good when the weather forecast turns out to be right 😎.

…..and so it was for last nights steady training ride. The unpleasant shower’s had gone through and all that was left of storm Dudley was a barely noticeable air flow from the west. Barely noticeable at any rate in a decent chain gang of eight building up a good momentum heading out through Goostrey.

What was all to noticeable were the very messy road’s, debris, flooded verge’s and to many potholes full of water. Perhaps inevitably those conditions took their toll when Chris punctured shortly before Byley, full marks to him for getting it sorted quickly without flaff but no marks for not having a spare tube 🤔.

After the right turn at Byley the road’s did get a bit smoother, the group worked well together, a couple of times the shout of steady or knock one off was needed to keep thing’s together but discipline was generally good and we all rode for each other which is the ethos of the ride. Back up Congleton lane predictably there was a lot of water but not impassable like it was for weeks on end a few winters ago.

We were unluckily held up a bit at junctions by traffic and with a puncture stop no records were going to be broken in term’s of average speed but I was pleasantly surprised to get back to Broken X about the same time as last week. Plus even more surprised to be first over the line 🥇myself having hung on to Vinney 🥈until the very final push who himself had sat in until over the Bearhust Lane lump. Next up was Fozzy 🥉then Bartosz, Mark W, Nigel, Chris and Mark B.

It was encouraging to have a reasonable turnout with the ride now scheduled to be on regular and nice to have two out for the first time in a while. Nigel gave his new titanium supa bike a good run out and Vinney who had been playing mind games claiming he wasn’t fit enough smashed it.

Dare I forecast another good one next week ?
