Saturday Club Run to Monyash

We had two guest riders who normally opt for MTB’s on Saturday afternoons club run.

So that Richard and Fozzy didn’t feel to out of place we kept as close as we could on road bikes to mountian bike country round three shires head, down the gated road to Gradbach then up the back lane to the highest village in England, Flash. The numbers were:

  • Shires: 3, Cheshire (the lumpy bits), Derbyshire and a little corner of Staffordshie

  • Bums on saddles: 3 times last week

  • Feet of climbing: 4500

  • Punctures: Just a little one

  • Gears on Freds bike: only two climbing up from Earl Sterndale to Axe Edge.

Two speed gears worked well enough though to give Fozzy a lead out on the final climb at the Cat & Fiddle, job done it was then time for Pete to motor pace Bennett, Joe and the rest down into Macc and for some of us the Old Ship Inn, where we reflected on a good ride in lovely cycling country and weather.

Next week the 1pm club run will be finishing at 1pm rather than starting at that time so we can get the train into Manchester hopefully to see Cav win the last stage or the Tour of Britain. We will probably ride out to see the race somewhere first, watch this space for more details
