John's Challenge

Please see this about John’s challenge!

Would the Council like to be a part of a unique cycle challenge that I am doing on the 17th July 2022?

The Challenge itself is for myself to cycle from my home in Macclesfield to a well-being Cafe in Tydelesly near Leigh in Greater Manchester, some 30 miles away. The cafe has become a home from home since October for me despite the 30 mile distance and everyone there have made me feel so welcome. So this ride is “payback time”. Apart from the fundraising bit I will be promoting both the health benefits of cycling and its safety.

If you have a doubt that this is nothing but genuine, recently I did 2 interviews with the media here in Cheshire. Both articles were published on their websites. I have copies obviously and I would be more than delighted to share them to whoever at the council. Thinking of the likes of Sam Corcoran, Lisa O’Donnell etc. Mrs Akers-Smith the cycling champion for the council and also Liz Braithwaite my local counsellor here in Macclesfield Central have seen those articles.

I am sure that East Cheshire Council would love to be a part of this challenge. Wigan Council recently interview me and will be doing so again when the challenge is completed. Invitations have been send out to the BBC and Granada TV. Radio Manchester themselves are very keen to be involve and hopefully I will be going on Radio Manchester to talk about my cycling and how it has helped me get through the pandemic.

This coming Friday, I am “making” a video promoting the ride and will be sent out to the local media including Granada TV and BBC in Manchester. I’m actively getting the likes of Halfords and my local Sainsbury’s store on board to contribute in some way. The signs from Halfords look promising at the moment. With this challenge everyone is a winner!

The route itself has been planned and “approved” by me. Details of that are given out upon request.

This is officially a solo challenge but anybody that may want to join me at any stage are most welcome.

Anyone from the council who may be interested in this can either e-mail me at john.skelton35@gmail or ring me on 07717 661832 where I would be more than happy to answer any further questions. I couldn't find a link to the Council’s media department hence why it has been sent to you.

I look forward very much indeed to hearing from the Council.

Kind Regards

John Skelton
