Sunday Easy Ride to Dunham Barn

Another great turn out, with 18 Macclesfield Wheelers enjoying a sunny ride.

14 of us set off from Wilmslow, Simon Ga kindly agreed to lead a third group. I led Gawsworth John, Pat, and Dan on a supposedly slower pace ride, however we had a tail wind so set off at a good pace. Simon’s group soon came storming past us, I am not sure who was setting the pace but with Snowy, Mark, Andy and Jack on his bike this week, no one was taking any prisoners.

My group stopped a couple of times whist I tried to get my Garmin to ‘talk’ to me, and John’s group finally caught us just before Rostherne. John stopped and fixed my Garmin, but it later transpired that he had fixed it by setting it up with a shorter route. That did at least mean that we arrived at the cafe first, ahead of Simon’s group who arrived 5 minutes later looking rather warm.

The next to arrive were Simon R and Jo, followed shortly after by Michael and Karl, they had all used the DIY route from Macclesfield. John’s group arrived last, having done the Lymm loop which included part of the Transpennine trail. Griff had encountered some issues getting through the obstructions set up to stop motorbikes (and builder scale cyclists) getting through. The others in team John were Philip, Jim and Francis.

We had to queue a while to order, but most of the queue was of our own making, and the food came quickly once ordered. Dunham Barn has just reopened their kitchens after refurbishment, and the food was excellent.

There was plenty of outdoor seating, and lots of chatting in the sun, before we set off for home, following a devious route created by John, which took in a lot of Victorian mansions through Dunham town, outskirts of Bowdon, Altrincham and Hale before spitting us out at the airport logistics park, for a more downmarket experience riding through the airport tunnels back to Wilmslow.

Great company and good fun as always, see you next week!
