Cycling and Cycle Routes Around Macclesfield

While cycling in groups is suspended we can still share inspiration and some fantastic cycle routes around Macclesfield.

Although formal club activities like meeting up for social rides are still suspended, more of us than ever are out, exploring, enjoying cycling and feeling the benefits. Naturally we are adhering to social distancing and the guidelines of Cycling UK - Coronavirus Q&A: is it safe to cycle?.

As a club we remain committed to championing cycling in the Macclesfield area. If anyone, club members or not, would like help or encouragement to get out cycling, then please get in touch. We are particularly keen to offer support to those who are getting into cycling to minimise pressure on public transport or minimise road use. We will be delighted to support and assist with advice on bike repairs, maintenance, routes or general encouragement. You can email me alison.f@macclesfieldwheelers.org.uk or one of the other club contacts.

You can access and download a good number of our tried and tested cycle routes on Ride With GPS. These can be printed out or downloaded for free in a range of formats including .gpx to import into most navigation apps or devices. It is also easy to modify and adapt these and re-save them for your own use.

Local authorities change road layouts from time to time, so you must not assume that you will always still be able to ride the exact route we planned (perhaps years ago). You must make your own decisions about the safety of your route on the day you ride it.

Macclesfield Wheelers JAR is a selection of routes between 35-45km which generally can be completed in a couple of hours or so.

Macclesfield Wheelers Road Routes is a collection of longer road rides.

If any one has a favorite route that they would like to share and describe in a blog post that would be fantastic. I hope this helps to provide some cycling inspiration.

Happy cycling

Alison
