New Years Day Adventure
13 of us met at Wilmslow for our New Year's Day easy ride. The torrential rain overnight had flooded a lot of roads so a few people arrived with wet feet and/ or late.
We set off on our planned route to Lymm, but were soon rerouting when a walker warned us of extremely deep water on the way to the airport tunnels. We decided to go via Lady Lane instead, that was also flooded in several places but was rideable. Ashley road had even deeper flooding, again rideable. We stopped at Ashley crossroads to consider options, and decided that Tatton Park would be a better destination, given the road conditions and number of wet feet. In retrospect that was a good decision, as the canal had breached at Little Bollington, and we would have had problems on our route back from Lymm.
We found even deeper water on our route to Rostherne, but we all stayed upright. Dave H decided to carry on towards Lymm, but 12 of us headed into some very welcome warmth at Tatton. It was relatively quiet until we arrived and we were served quickly. When we came out, Phil found that he had punctured. He said we should leave him, but the temptation to test out new gadgets was too strong and we all stayed. Griff also discovered that he had a puncture, but with some help and a lot of hilarity we were soon back underway, and heading out through the Knutsford gate.
On the other side of Knutsford, Troy, Alison, Becky and David headed off to Macclesfield whilst the rest of us made our way back to Wilmslow via Mobberley. Well done to everyone who turned out, it was certainly a memorable ride!
We have an easy ride planned for this Sunday, but it depends upon the weather, so please check the website before you set off.
